The perfect balance between modern living and rural-feeling neighborhoods

Arlington, Virginia, offers residents and tourists the perfect blend between modern amenities and small-town living. Here you’ll find open neighborhoods with a rural feel to the west and a high-density urban center of National Landing to the east. This is an area where you can comfortably live without a car and use the Metro to access everything you need. Here you’ll find everything from elegant condos to larger single-family homes, as well as high-end luxury rentals.

What to Love

  • Rural beauty and metropolitan atmosphere right next to each other
  • Many recreational facilities, including excellent amenities for youth sports
  • Easy access to Washington, D.C.

Local Lifestyle

Arlington, Virginia, is a large and varied county, offering vibrant urban downtowns in National Landing, Shirlington, and Ballston as well as quieter, more rural-feeling neighborhoods. None of it, however, is far from downtown D.C.

Many of its neighborhoods are known for their walkability, and if you choose your location right, you can avoid owning a car and simply rent one as needed. Arlington is a modern county that still has opportunities for peace and tranquility. You can choose precisely how on the go you want to be by looking at specific locations within the county.

Dining, Entertainment, & Shopping

There are so many places to eat in Arlington County. You can get every kind of cuisine from Italian to Thai. Check out Ambar Balkan Cuisine in Clarendon. It offers indoor and outdoor dining where you can try Balkan classics such as Cevapi, smoked sausage, and their award-winning Forest Gnocchi dessert. During Oktoberfest, swing by Lyon Hall for classic German brasserie fare and fantastic brunch. Ruthie's All Day is the place to go for breakfast and dinner. We also like New District Brewing Company for the craft beer and the ability to join their Dog Club, which allows you to bring your canine friend along.

Arlington has fantastic shopping options, with numerous small boutiques and high-end shops. You’ll be able to find anything your heart desires, from luxury staple items to eclectic gifts for your favorite people.

Things to Do

You can get a tour of the Pentagon on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 10 am and 1 pm if you are a U.S. citizen. But you cannot take your cell phone, smartwatch, or camera in, so you should leave them at home or in your vehicle. It's worth doing it at least once to immerse yourself in the country’s history, and there is some beautiful military art inside the building too.

Also on the military note is the Iwo Jima Memorial, also known as the Marine Corps War Memorial. You might have seen pictures of the statue of marines holding our flag aloft. It's a copy of a historic photo. Every Tuesday evening during the summer, the U.S. Marine Corps has one-hour sunset parades open to the general public.

There are several hiking and biking trails throughout the county, but the most notable is the Washington and Old Dominion Trail, a 45-mile rail trail that runs from Shirlington to Purcellville. Shirlington has some great restaurants.

Last but not least are the summer concert programs at the Lubber Run Amphitheater. These concerts are free and range from children's theater to superstar bands. Whether your taste is big band, soul, classical, or cabaret, there's bound to be something for you.
